Shore's Island was named for Colonel Shore who came to the Saint John River area in the 1800's. He constructed a stone house on the island from ship ballast. This was a three storey house with a copper roof, a brass stairway and mohogany
stairs. An unusual ice jam in the early 1900's surrounded the house and the family living there had to walk across the ice to Kingsclear. Later the house deteriorated, the copper roof was removed and used for war purposes during World W
ar I. The stones were used in the building of the causeway in the 1970's.
