Come and spend a beautiful Fall afternoon with the Keswick Ridge Historical Society!
  • 12noon-2:30pm Antiques Roadshow: Bring your heirlooms and antiques to be appraised by well known experts ($5 per item).
  • 3pm Antiques Showcase: Your item could be selected to be shown and discussed by the experts as being of particular value or interest.
  • 3-4pm Metal Detecting Treasure Hunt: Join in a real treasure hunt as we search the old school grounds with a metal detector for pieces of the past!
  • 12-4pm McKeen Store Display: Tour the recently restored old general store, and see the very special display of pieces from the OPUS Craft Village featuring a variety of crafts made in the 1970's and 1980's.
  • 4pm Pie Auction: Join Troy Whittaker and bid on your favourite pie to take home!

Join your neighbours our annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony, with a Carol Sing, hot cider and sweets, and a visit from Santa. There will be an afternoon Bake Sale from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. featuring delicious homemade Christmas treats. The Bake Sale will reopen after the tree has been lit. Join us in this traditional start of the Holiday season on Keswick Ridge.

Members of the Historical Society will be demonstrating how we register artefacts which have been donated to our Museum.
Some Museum artefacts will be on display as well as our collection of local genealogies.
Many photographs from our collection will also be on display as well as our small collection of lovely old valentines.
Books on local history, DVDs and our Cookbook will be for sale.

The Keswick Ridge Historical Society presents a Fall Ghost Walk on Saturday, Sept. 29th . The stories will be presented at 4 locations and will include a wagon ride through a local orchard.
Based on local lore and told by local people with some spooky embellishments ! Evening concludes with refreshments at the Old Schoolhouse on Route 616. Tour begins at 6:30 sharp.

The Keswick Ridge Historical Society History Speaks Series is back for another season! Please mark the four Sundays in March on your calendars as historical society Sundays and join us as history speaks!

Sunday March 4th
New Brunswick's involvement in the War of 1812 with Robert Dallison
Presenter Robert Dallison received a B.A. (History) from R.M.C. and a B.A. (History & International Studies) from the University of British Columbia. He served for thirty-five years with the Canadian Army, obtaining the rank of lieutenant colonel, and ending his career as Chief of Staff of the Combat Arms School at CFB Gagetown. From 1992 to 2002, he was Director of Kings Landing Historical Settlement. Robert’s third book, A Neighbourly War, will be published by Goose Lane Editions in March as part of the New Brunswick Military Heritage Project.

Women’s Fashions in New Brunswick – 1780 -1980 with Peter Larocque
Presenter Peter Larocque has been employed with the New Brunswick Museum in a curatorial capacity since 1988. In 1995 he became curator of the New Brunswick cultural history and art collections and has concentrated on the research, exhibition and publishing of the province’s contemporary and historic fine and decorative art.

The Irish in New Brunswick and Keswick Ridge…Is There a Connection? with Bruce Driscoll and Denis Noel
Presenter Bruce Driscoll became involved with the Irish Canadian Cultural Association of New Brunswick in 2001 visiting Ireland to take part in an O’Driscoll clan gathering. Bruce is presently the Provincial President of the ICCANB, as well as a member of the local Capital Area Chapter of the Association.
Presenter Denis Noel’s first assignment when he joined the staff of the Provincial Archives in 1981 was arranging and describing record groups including the Customs House passengers lists which were overwhelmingly of Irish origin. Denis retired after a 26-year career with the Provincial Archives. His knowledge of the Irish in New Brunswick has made him a respected and valued member of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association.

The British Home Children: Canada's forgotten immigrants with Michael Staples
Michael Staples has been twice nominated for an Atlantic Journalism Award and has worked with Brunswick News for 25 years. He has written extensively on Canada’s military, having travelled with troops throughout the war torn Balkans in the 1990s, and to Haiti in 2004. He covered the Miller Inquiry into sexual and physical abuse at the Kingsclear Training School in the 1990s and has written extensively on law and order issues. Michael has authored four books, three on the British Home Children and one based on his experiences with Canadian Peacekeepers in the former Yugoslavia.

The KRHS History Speaks Series takes place at 2PM each Sunday in March at the Old Superior School, 112 Route 616, Keswick Ridge. Coffee, tea and refreshments are provided.

Nineteenth-Century York County Furniture
Mr. Darrell Butler, Manager of Heritage Resources, with Kings Landing Historical Settlement presents an illustrated lecture on York County furniture and furniture markers of the nineteenth century.

Sunday March 13th
Local Black History
Mr. Bob Dallison, author and former director of Kings Landing Historical Settlement, discusses the history of Black settlers and families along the St. John River Valley during the eighteen and nineteenth centuries.

Sunday March 20th
The History of the Keswick Islands and the Goodine family
Mr. Brian Hallett, former archivist with Library and Archives Canada, presents an illustrated lecture on the Keswick Islands and discusses an interesting historical event regarding the Goodine family of Sugar Island.

Artifact Show and Tell
Now it’s your turn! Do you have an interesting item that you would like others to know about? Share it with us during Artifact Show and Tell.
